0 a digit always, # a digit if there is one, a comma for thousands, % and E+00; yyyy mm dd, h:mm, AM/PM and [h] for hours elapsed; text in quotes; up to four sections split by ; for positive, negative, zero and text.
A CSV, TSV or JSON file, fetched by this browser straight from its site, which has to allow it. Nothing is sent back, and the file there is never changed.
Kept in this browser only, so you can find a sheet again. Nothing is sent anywhere.
No sheets yet: they appear here once they have something in them.
Add another column
On a Mac, Cmd works wherever Ctrl is shown.
Formatting changes how a cell looks, not what it holds: a number formatted as currency is still the same number to a formula. Delete clears what was typed and keeps the formatting; Clear formatting does the other.
Sort range sorts by more than one column: the first decides, and each after it only orders the rows the ones above left tied.
A sort orders the rows under a filter's headings, or what is selected and nothing else: a whole column sorts that column alone. With a single cell chosen, it sorts the block of data around it, whole rows together. A first row of text stays in place as headings. Numbers sort by value, even typed as text; Numbers in text also sorts Item 2 before Item 10. A filter hides rows, and copying, clearing, filling and deleting rows then leave the hidden ones alone. Formulas still count them.
On a touch screen, tap a cell to choose it and tap it again to edit it. Hold a finger on a cell, or on a row or column heading, for the menu.
A book holds up to 50 sheets, as tabs along the bottom. Double-click a tab to rename it; right-click it, or use the list button beside +, for its menu. Alt+PgDn and Alt+PgUp go from sheet to sheet, and Shift+F11 adds one. A formula reads another sheet as Sheet2!A1, or 'Sales 2026'!B2:B9 when its name has spaces in; renaming the sheet rewrites them, and deleting it turns them to #REF!.
Sheet2!A1
'Sales 2026'!B2:B9
#REF!
Dates and times are numbers underneath, as in every spreadsheet: type 2026-10-03, 10/3/2026 (month first), Oct 3, 2026, 14:30 or 2:30 PM and it keeps the look it was typed with. =A1+7 is a week on and shows as a date; one date less another is the days between. Format > Date shows any number as one.

Ctrl+F finds, in what the cells show, or in what was typed with In formulas; Ctrl+Shift+H (or Ctrl+H) replaces, in what was typed, formulas only with In formulas. Replace all is one step for undo.
A formula starts with =, as in =SUM(B2:B9). While typing one, click a cell to put its reference in, drag across cells for a range, or click a column’s heading for all of it; Shift-click stretches what was just pointed at, and clicking again swaps it for another cell. A $ keeps a reference fixed when it is copied. ' at the start keeps a cell as text.

A view only link opens the sheet to be read, with Edit a copy to change it; it asks, it does not enforce, since anyone with the link could take the flag off. A password seals the link with AES-GCM in this browser: without it the link opens nothing, and a forgotten password cannot be recovered. Recent sheets are kept in this browser only.
The sheet lives in this page's link and nowhere else. Nothing is uploaded. A link holds what it carries in your browser history too, so keep secrets out of a sheet.
